The Danish Community Pharmacy Evidence Database

In 2001, the Danish Pharmaceutical Association established an evidence database for community pharmacy. The Evidence Database has been developed and is maintained by Pharmakon, Danish College of Pharmacy Practice, for the Danish Pharmaceutical Association. The database contains evaluated intervention studies in community pharmacy practice on clinical, humanistic and economic outcomes:

  • Six evidence reports covering the main areas of Good Pharmacy Practice Guidelines
  • Evidence report on drug-related problems
  • Evidence report on patient safety and medication errors
  • Evidence report on compliance and concordance (English summary not available).
  • Evidence report on opportunistic screening in the primary health sector. , based on searches in the Evidence Database.
  • Reports on Diabetes, Elderly, Hypertension and Coronary Heart Diseases, Medication reviews in Denmark, Evidence for counselling in the pharmacies, and Seamless Care, based on searches in the Evidence Database (English summaries of these reports are not available ).
  • An electronic database with datasheets on each article in Danish.

The aim of the database is to ensure that the pharmacy sector has a continuous access to updated knowledge of the impact of pharmacy practice in society. All datasheets are included in the searchable, electronic version of the Evidence Database on www.pharmakon.dk, and via the homepage of the Danish Pharmaceutical Association, http://www.apotekerforeningen.dk/default.asp?cat=12&ID=80, under the heading 'Forskning i apotekspraksis'.

The database is mainly based on European literature (from 1990), supplemented with international literature of significance. The datasheets in the base are in Danish, and the majority of the summaries have been translated into English.
